Our Program

In the 1990-s, as a young physiotherapist, I was treating a female patient with a Musculo-skeletal disorder. During a treatment session, she shared with me her fertility story: when she got married, she couldn’t conceive for more than 3 years. Back in the 1990-s, in Eastern-Europe, infertility was considered “shameful and embarrassing”. After trying to conceive for over 3 years, my patient and her husband made arrangements to attend a fertility clinic in US. They had their visas, travel plans and appointments finalized when they heard about a folk healer in Russia. Since they were living in Russia at that time, my patient decided to consult the healer.

She described that she was treated by “vaginal massages”. Also, she shared that they were “very painful” but she was able to conceive after only a few treatments and there wasn’t anymore need to consult fertility specialists overseas. I remember, how puzzled I was by her story. At that time, I tried to research in several libraries about this treatment technique. In 1994, I couldn’t find any science or non-science-based information. Only in 2009, when I took my first training in Pelvic Health, I figured out how the folk healer’s treatment actually helped my patient to conceive: most likely she had short and tight pelvic floor muscles. Once the trigger points and the myofascial restrictions were released, the circulation and the homeostasis in her pelvis were improved, therefore a favorable conception environment was created.

When I started practicing as a Pelvic Health physiotherapist, I had a couple of patients conceiving right after treatment sessions consisting of trigger points and myofascial release of the pelvic floor muscles. One of them was a 34-year-old female. She came to see me after a miscarriage. She wanted to check her pelvic floor muscles integrity. It was about a month after her miscarriage, she still didn’t have her period back. When I examined her, I detected some tightness and trigger points along the levator ani and the coccygeus muscles. After releasing these muscles, I suggested that she doesn’t need to hurry to get pregnant again but to focus on recovering after the miscarriage.

The TCM point of view in this case differs from the Western medicine where patients are advised that they can try conceiving right away after a miscarriage. Two weeks later, I received a call from this patient. She was pregnant. She had only one intercourse the day of her treatment and she was positive that this treatment helped her to conceive.

Сombining my knowledge and hands-on experience in two disciplines

Around 2012-2013, I was introduced by a Toronto MD and a pioneer Canadian Acupuncturist to advanced Taoist Chinese Medicine. Learning about the projection of the Yin meridians in the female vagina, further developed my method of natural fertility by combining my knowledge and hands-on experience in two disciplines: Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pelvic Health Physiotherapy.

Natural Fertility: my program

For the past 7-8 years, I have been implementing and further developing my Natural Fertility Program. It consists but is not limited to the following:

Detailed Initial Assessment

  1. Complete medical history of both partners.
  2. Diet and life style assessment, including assessment of stress, anxiety and depression levels.
  3. Detailed assessment in both disciplines: pelvic health physiotherapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

This helps us to develop a complete holistic treatment plan aimed to optimize the pre-conception health, to correct any imbalances and to achieve optimal levels of Qi and balance between Yin and Yang.

Our Treatment Plan may include but is not limited to the following:

  1. Pelvic health therapy – internal digital myofascial and trigger points release, exercise instruction including Master Taoist and Yoga exercise.
  2. Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture based on the individual TCM diagnosis and aimed to correct any energetic disbalances including regulation of the menstrual cycle for the female partner and improving of the sperm quality and quantity for the male.
  3. Chinese Scalp Acupuncture to further optimize the chances of conception of a healthy baby.
  4. Moxibustion – the most efficient but the most underused modality in TCM.

Moxibustion

The herb wormwood is burned over acupuncture points and helps the Qi to circulate in the meridians. According to TCM, moxibustion is a pure Yang energy and addresses the best fertility issues which in vast majority are caused by cold and phlegm. Our program includes heat sensitive moxibustion throughout the menstrual cycle and moxa on medium (ginger) during ovulation and the following 2 days after ovulation.

Nutrition and lifestyle advice are an inseparable part of our treatment program

We work with best Naturopathic Doctors and Holistic Nutritionists. If needed, we would refer you to them for additional tests, supplements and nutrition advices.
